DORJE KHADRO
RETREAT FACILITIES
Through the inspiration of our precious guru, Lama Zopa Rinpoche, a full human-size statue of the fierce and wrathful meditation deity Dorje Khadro (Vajra Daka) has been carved out of white volcanic rock. Appropriately, this volcanic rock erupted violently from the Rotorua crater around 200,000 years ago, and even changed the course of New Zealand’s main waterway, the Waikato River. The Dorje Khadro statue has been placed in a unique hexagonal retreat hut at the Mahamudra Centre.
It is now available
for those who wish to perform the powerful Dorje Khadro practice for purifying
negative karma. This purification practice is often included in the nine
preliminary practices of the Gelugpa lineage. The Dorje Khadro statue has
been hollowed out sufficiently so that black sesame seeds, representing
our negativity and visualized in the form of scorpions, can be fed into
the gaping mouth of Dorje Khadro.
