SACRED ART WORKSHOP

27-28 November

A calming and relaxing Weekend Art Workshop.

Join us in the beautiful retreat oasis of Mahamudra Centre, where we will learn to create “Tsa-Tsas”. Tsa-Tsas are statues of various Buddhas. This is a form of art that has flourished for centuries in the Himalayas, most notably Tibet!

Meet the Artist, Geshe Jamyang Sherab

Ven. Geshe Jamyang Sherab originates from Kham, Tibet and after escaping to India lived and trained in Buddhist philosophy and Buddhist art for over 16 years at Sera Je Monastery in Southern India.

He came to New Zealand in 2000 as a Teacher and Artist. He teaches and has constructed over 20 Sand Mandalas (unique Buddhist artwork) around New Zealand, Australia and South Africa.

We are delighted Geshe-la has accepted our invitation to teach us this art, please do join us for this auspicious occasion.

What does the art workshop involve?

f_tsa-tsas.png

We will learn to make our own Buddhas using plaster and molds.

This is a sacred practice, with each step in the creative process: mixing the materials, casting the molds and so on, one does particular visualizations and makes aspirations.

Tsatsas can be placed in your home to bless and protect the environment, they also make wonderful gifts, and sometimes tsatsas are made for people who are sick or to commemorate loved ones who have died.

Who can join?

Everyone! No Buddhist or Art experience required!
