At different times, the Mahamudra Centre has practical needs—items that help us care for the land, maintain our facilities, and continue offering retreats and teachings in a peaceful and supportive environment.
This page lists specific items we're currently seeking support with. Some are small and everyday; others are larger and longer-term. All of them contribute in meaningful ways to the ongoing life and work of the Centre.
There are two ways you can help. Either by purchasing and sending an item directly to the Centre or by contributing towards the cost of an item through a donation. Each item listed includes details, and a link to purchase (where possible). At the bottom of this page, you’ll find two forms—one to let us know if you’re buying and sending an item, and another if you’d prefer to donate towards something.
Making offerings in a Buddhist temple is a ritual that signifies respect and devotion to the Buddha and the Dharma. Offerings are not given to the Buddha as a gift, but rather as an act of generosity that generates merit for the giver and benefits their own practice.
Why make offerings?
-
Accumulating merit:
Offerings are believed to generate good karma and accumulate merit, which helps in achieving a higher rebirth and eventually, enlightenment.
-
Positive qualities:
Offerings are seen as a way to develop positive qualities like respect, gratitude, and inspiration.
-
Remedy for attachments:
Making offerings can help to purify negative qualities like greed and attachment.
-
Blessings and power:
Offerings are also believed to stimulate the blessings and power of the Buddhas.
What happens after the offering:
-
Merit accumulation:
The act of making the offering itself creates merit, which is stored and can be used to support future positive actions.
-
Blessings:
Offerings are believed to bring blessings to the person making them, as well as to the Buddha and the community.
-
Dedication:
The good karma generated by the offering can be dedicated to others, such as deceased relatives or individuals in need.
The offering is not because the Buddhas need it or want it, rather the offering is for you, an opportunity for you to create merit, good karma.
Your support—no matter the size—is deeply appreciated.
