Volunteering at the Centre

As with many other non-profit organisations, we are always looking for people to help run the Centre and get involved with our various projects and activities.

Please consider becoming part of the Mahamudra community, bringing benefit to countless beings by helping to keep the Centre running and flourishing!​​

By offering your service as a volunteer, you engage in the supreme practice of generosity (Dānapāramitā) and receive manifold benefits that deeply enrich your spiritual path:

Opportunities for Dharma Practice & Study

  • Teaching Access: Through the year, we welcome highly qualified international Tibetan and Western teachers who share precious teachings on mindfulness and Buddhist philosophy.

  • FPMT Education: You will have the opportunity to participate in our FPMT education programs, including the two-year Discovering Buddhism program.

  • Supportive Community: Join a lovely community of staff and senior students who are happy to share their experience of practising Buddhism with you.

 

Enhancing Your Spiritual Environment

  • Dharma Resources: Gain access to our excellent Dharma library, meditation hall (Gompa), and many holy objects for circumambulation and merit-making activities.

  • Diverse Community: Enjoy the peaceful environment alongside guests staying overnight in our accommodation and those attending group retreats.

 

Volunteer Commitment & Logistics

Service Activities

Typical volunteer activities are essential to the Centre's continuity and may include cooking, housekeeping, gardening, maintenance, and guest services.

  • Skills Match: We highly value your interests and skills. If you have special skills, please mention them in your application, as we encourage you to apply for projects where your abilities would be a particularly good fit.

 

Time and Financial Contribution

  • Hours: Volunteers commit to 4 hours of service per day for 5 days per week.

  • Minimum Stay: A minimum stay of two weeks works best for integrating into the community and for effective service.

  • Contribution: We ask volunteers to contribute $50 per week to the Centre in exchange for food, accommodation, and use of facilities. This contribution helps sustain the Centre's mission.​

Application Guidance

Due to the number of applications we receive, we encourage you to apply at least one month before your desired arrival date to avoid disappointment.

Residential Centre Volunteers

​​​​​​

 

Join us for a few weeks or months and enjoy all the centre has to offer while offering your skills to care for the centre buildings and gardens – inside and out.

Fundraising Coordinator

​

​​

We would like to find a volunteer with skills, to help the Centre raise funds and coordinate various fundraising projects – in collaboration with the  Director.

Specific volunteers we are looking for now:​

Property/Maintenance Volunteer

 

The centre needs dedicated volunteers to work in various and varied jobs around the grounds and property.

The kinds of things we generally need help with:

 

Preparing for a Lama Visit

  • Preparing the lama room – cleaning room and windows

  • Preparing the lama lounge and bathrooms

  • Preparing Offerings

  • Arranging flowers and offerings.  

  • Cooking for the lama

  • Offering sangha support
          

Helping to facilitate the various Programme events we have on our calendar 

  • Setting up our gompa and other venues for events

  • Running the sound, video and recording system

  • Serving refreshments when needed

  • Tidying up the venue at the end of an event.


Caring for the Centre - inside and outside - including ...

  • Gardening

  • Sweeping/raking paths and grounds

  • Cleaning, tidying the Courtyard

  • Cleaning and maintenance of our holy objects

  • Painting

  • Helping with repair work

 

Assisting with the various Centre functions ...

  • Dining area: 
    -  Cooking, kitchen hand, cleaning

  • Giftshop
    -  Serving, shop display, cleaning

  • Accommodation:
    - Meeting and greeting, room preparation, cleaning, laundry.
